What is hCG?
hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone naturally produced by both men and women, and in larger amounts by women during pregnancy. This hormone allows a pregnant woman's body to release stored fat (adipose tissue) to provide nutrients to the growing baby.
HCG is available in shot form with a doctor's prescription. Our hCG formula is a homeopathic blend of sublingual drops (drops you put underneath your tongue). They are far less expensive than shots, and, since they do not contain any of the actual hormone, they are available without a prescription.
What's the hCG diet?
The hCG diet is a protocol developed about 50 years ago by a British endocrinologist. The diet combines hCG with a very low-calorie diet (VLCD)—just 500 calories per day—to allow the body to shed stored fat at a very fast rate, an average of 0.5-2 pounds per day.
And, because your body is shedding stored fat, the actual shape of your body will change.
Is It Safe?
There are very few side effects with hCG. Those that do exist are typically both mild and rare: slight dizziness/headache in the first days of the diet, muscle cramping, constipation and, very rarely, temporary hair loss. We believe that the ingredients in our hCG formula will minimize even these few side effects.
Is the Diet Only for Women?
No. hCG is actually produced naturally by both men and women. Men often have even better weight loss results than women do.
How Does the Diet Work?
Typically, when a person tries to lose weight, they will first lose normal fat stores, then structural fat and then abnormal fat. By the time they start to lose the fat they really want to lose, they are weak, tired and very, very hungry. Often, they quit the diet without ever losing abnormal fat!
hCG allows your body to release abnormal fat stores first. The stored fat is released into the bloodstream where your body can utilize nutrients already in these fat cells before they are eliminated. Your body will literally change shape as these fat cells are discarded.
Most sources list 4 phases to the diet so we'll list them all, though the first phase is not part of the original protocol.
Phase 1: detox phase (no drops)—you can find a variety of suggestions for this phase online. This is not part of the original protocol and the diet itself is a very effective detox.
Phase 2: losing phase (take hCG formula throughout)—2 days of loading (take the drops on those days, too) followed by 21-40 days of the VLCD (very low calorie diet), 500 calories per day.
Phase 3: stabilization phase (no drops)—nearly normal diet (but NO sugar or starch) for 3-6 weeks. This allows your body to adjust to its new shape & weight, to establish your body’s new normal.
Phase 4: maintenance phase (no hCG drops)—lifetime maintenance of your new weight. You should continue to monitor your weight so that you're aware of any dietary changes you need to make. You will likely have developed some new eating habits from Phase 2.
How Hungry Will I Feel?
Some depends on your activity level. The protocol was designed for people who are not exercising strenuously. Our formula decreases appetite for most people, which is part of why this diet is becoming so popular. You may not feel hungry at all.
You'll probably feel hungry at times, especially if you've been more active than usual. Listen to your body. If you're continually hungry you may need to adjust your dosage, you may need to eat a bit more (think extra vegetables/protein, not bread sticks) or you may need to decrease your activity level a bit. In our experience, people are generally surprised by how good they feel during this diet.
How Long Can I Stay on the Diet?
You should stay on the drops for at least 23 days (counting both the loading days and a couple of days at the end where you’ll be following the protocol but not taking drops) to help reset your hypothalamus. It has been believed that your body may develop an immunity to injected hCG. That won't happen with our formula (since it does not contain the hormone), so you can continue to take our hCG formula as long as you'd like. Most people take a break after 40 days on the drops, especially if their weight loss slows. The original protocol also recommends that you take a break once you've lost 34 pounds, to give your body some time to adjust. If you have more than that to lose, take a few weeks (general guidelines recommend three to six weeks) off and then you can start the diet over again. Because it's so safe, you can repeat the diet until you've achieved your goal weight.
Can I Just Follow the Diet but Skip the hCG?
No. 500 calories is not enough to sustain an adult and you would likely become weak and tired (and possibly sick) after just a few days. On top of that, your body would go into starvation mode, which would drive your body to store nearly everything you eat as fat!
What Can I Eat?
Each day you may have:
Your total daily intake should be 500 calories. As long as you stick to the calorie limit, you can eat the foods in whatever order and combinations you'd like, provided that you: do not eat more than 4 food items in any one meal and do not have the same protein twice in one day. Other than that, you can vary your menu quite a bit. You can eat your vegetables raw, baked, grilled...you can have your fruit whole, blended into a smoothie or baked into a delicious dessert.
You can use spices and seasoning blends as long as they don't contain any sugar or starch. We'll help you along with some recipes so that you can enjoy what you're eating as you reshape your body and drop those unwanted extra pounds.
This diet is not hard but it's also not easy. It takes discipline, organization and motivation. But we believe that you'll find plenty of those as you watch your weight drop at an impressive rate!
Our question to you is...
